I can't be the only one feeling exhausted this month. September always brings this wave of new activity: events, deadlines, and opportunities I want to take advantage of. But the past few years of disruption, grief, and change have left me feeling drained, and my motivation and energy levels just aren't what they used to be.
This very newsletter is a perfect example. It has been my kryptonite for the last two weeks. I was so excited to launch at first, and I had so many things to say.
But as I tried to write the second issue, I was blocked, overwhelmed, and exhausted. I got stuck in negative thinking patterns. Imposter syndrome took the reins.
The little gremlin voice in my head kept saying: "No one wants to read this. You're exhausted and can't even get your task list done--why would anyone want to hear what you have to say? Why would you think you have anything to offer?"
I'm burned out, personally. And I know a lot of other folks are feeling it too. So in this issue, I'm focusing on the tips and strategies that can help all of us reconnect with our unique sources of motivation, energy, and inspiration.
I read this blog post the other day, and it got me thinking. It talks about the idea that there are multiple types of motivation and ambition that drive people to do great work. Like many people, I tend to think of motivation as like...'off' or 'on,' basically a switch you can flip.
This fresh take, that motivation is a system we can shape for ourselves, felt like a game-changer for my tired brain. Instead of beating myself up over the fact that I'm not feeling motivated, I could actually step back and figure out what motivation formula is right for me.
I decided to put this issue out late and be honest about the fact that it's been a struggle to stay on track lately. And as I searched for ways to get my creative spark burning again, I found some helpful and interesting things to share with all of you.
In this issue, we dive deeper into the world of motivation, explore the deep economic impact of burnout, sprinkle in some cosmic wonders, and offer DIY crafts to soothe those tired brain folds. Here's to finding the motivation to finish the week strong!
Until next time,
